Criteria for Appointment of Clinical Assessor

(Revised by the Education Committee on 17 April 2007 and endorsed by the Midwives Council on 26 April 2007)

To be eligible for appointment as a clinical assessor, the applicant should:-

  1. be a registered midwife with the Midwives Council of Hong Kong holding a valid practising certificate;
  2. have at least 3 years post registration experience in the Obstetric Department/midwives' training school in the recent 4 years;
  3. have completed an approved midwifery clinical assessor course; or be a holder of health care education certificate/diploma or equivalent;
  4. if the applicant is a staff holding midwifery/nursing teaching post, he/she should:-
    1. have a minimum of 3 weeks per year, full time working as a clinical midwife in an obstetric unit; or
    2. have involvement in provision of midwifery care, such as midwives clinic/midwives team etc.; or
    3. have a minimum of 6 weeks per year guiding and supervising clinical practice of students in an obstetric unit; and
  5. be recommended for appointment as a clinical assessor by the unit head of the employing organization.
